The company… KINETIC ENGINEERING LTD.


Kinetic Engineering Ltd., founded in the year 1970, is the leading manufacturer and exporter of 2-wheelers. It manufactures a wide range of Mopeds, Scooters and Motorcycles that are very popular in India. Kinetic Engineering Ltd. has a capacity to manufacture 4,00,000 vehicles per year.

Kinetic's technologically advanced manufacturing set up has enabled them to reach high quality standards. The company also exports these vehicles to USA, Canada, Sweden, Latin America, Denmark and the Middle East. The company has its in-house Tool Room for manufacturing Die casting dies and tools.

The situation...

The R&D Department of Kinetic Engineering Ltd. had an aggressive plan to double the number of dies designed in their tool room in the current year.

They wanted a software solution that could help them to achieve the target by :

Cutting down the lead-time to design and manufacture the die.

Improving the yield and quality of the castings without compromising on the accuracy of design.

Crank case cover (clutch side, GF 125 project) (A 2kg complex casting with 30,000 faces)



The challenge

Meeting the tough expectations of the Kinetic Tool Design Engineers. Reducing the lead-time in designing the dies and improving the quality of castings. There was no scope for trial and error.

The validation of diedifice

Core and Cavity blocks developed in IDEAS were imported successfully in DiEdifice
to proceed for die-casting design.

The gating system comprising of gates, runners, and overflows was designed
and created on the blocks. It took not more than four hours to design and create
the gating, ejection and cooling system. This was done at the design lab of Kinetic.

An IGES-out of the gating system generated by DiEdifice was imported in
TEBIS for tool path generation.

The gating system was successfully cut on the die blocks using a CNC milling
machine. Graphite electrodes were also machined.

Finally, die trials were taken and castings were manufactured.
The castings were observed to be of excellent quality by Kinetic.
